The Guardian publishes a great book section. Last week, they published an article on the intersection of books and music and the influence that books have had on songwriters. It is a very interesting read and I certainly learned new tidbits about some famous names. It’s also filled with great quotes about books and reading. Definitely worth a quick read.
In May, they published an article by author David Nicholls who wrote about researching settings. Full of examples of authors who have done extensive visits to a location to get the location accurate and others who did their research entirely online or in books. Given that settings can be almost another character in the story, location can be vitally important and no author wants to get it wrong. The tourist phenomenon stemming from successful books is also discussed. Another worthy read for authors, editors, and readers.
